Relocating for a new job is never an easy decision—but for Pam La Mountain, it was the right one! Drawn to Verbal Beginnings’ reputation for ethical, high-quality ABA services and a culture that truly values both clients and staff, Pam saw an exciting chance to take her career—and her life—in a new direction. With VB’s relocation support behind her, she made the leap, found a role she loves, and discovered a whole new sense of community and balance!
What first drew you to Verbal Beginnings and made you consider making the move?
I was first drawn to Verbal Beginnings while researching companies that prioritize ethical, high-quality ABA services. I came across VB on the BHCOE website, and after visiting the company’s site, I was immediately impressed by their mission, values, and the fact that they were BCBA-owned and operated. I noticed they had just opened a clinic in Alexandria, VA, and were hiring for BCBAs, which sparked my interest even more. The job description, benefits (including relocation support), and the company culture all sounded incredibly promising.
At first, it felt almost too good to be true, so I gave myself a few days to think it over. But the more I considered it, the more I realized it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I kept thinking about what it would be like to work for a company that truly puts clients and ethical practices first, while also valuing work-life balance, something I hadn’t had much of in my career until then.
Once I interviewed with Jen, who I felt as though I instantly connected, I knew this was the right move. She seemed like a dream supervisor (which she truly is!), and that solidified my decision. I had already accomplished my personal and professional goals in my previous location, but lacked community and family nearby. VB gave me the confidence and support I needed to take that leap and move to a new state.
VB’s relocation support was a game-changer for me. Without it, the financial burden of moving to a different state might have held me back from taking the opportunity. Knowing I had that financial support gave me peace of mind and made the transition significantly less stressful. Relocating is a big step, and VB’s help made it not only possible, but manageable and exciting.
What’s been your favorite part about your new location/community/team so far?
One of my favorite parts of relocating has been being closer to my family especially my aunts, who I now can see regularly on weekends. That kind of connection is something I deeply missed in my previous location. I also love the beauty of Virginia, being surrounded by greenery, flowers, and natural scenery has made such a positive impact on my well-being.
Professionally, the support from my center’s leadership team has been incredible. Both my Clinical Director and Center Director are kind, approachable, and truly invested in helping me succeed. This is the first time I’ve had an in-person team, and it’s made a huge difference. Having fellow Clinical Supervisors to collaborate with and lean on has been invaluable, whether it’s brainstorming clinical strategies or simply sharing a laugh on a tough day. I finally feel like I’m part of a strong, supportive community.
What stood out to you about VB’s culture when you joined?

What advice would you give to someone considering relocating for their ABA role?
My advice is don’t let fear hold you back. Change is scary, but with the right support like the kind VB offers it can also be incredibly rewarding. Do your research, ask questions during the interview process, and make sure the company’s values align with yours. Take time to consider what you need both professionally and personally, and be honest with yourself about your goals. Relocating gave me a chance to grow in ways I never expected, and I’m so glad I took that leap.
