In today’s BCBA feature you’ll meet Clinical Supervisor Heather Pile as she talks about her passion for helping kids have major breakthroughs, and how VB helps her grow as a clinician!
What’s the most rewarding part of your role at VB?
For me, the most rewarding part of my role is helping families have lightbulb moments… we call them our “woo hoos” during family sessions! We get so excited when the skills we work on start to occur naturally and outside of our training sessions.
What’s the best part about working for VB?
VB allows us to work with families in their home and provides customized therapy that meets the needs of our kiddos and their families for where they are in their journey. As a clinician, I love that I have the independence to do my job, while also having a team to support my cases.
How have you seen VB’s Core Values in action this last year?
Education is one of the most important pieces of keeping our field moving forward. One of the reasons I joined VB was how many opportunities we are given to connect with industry professionals. There are so many opportunities for CEUs, mentorship, and innovation at VB!
What surprised you the most when you first started out at VB?
Coming from other organizations, I was surprised (and delighted) to be surrounded by so many professionals who share in the mission to provide socially significant services to our clients.
What keeps you coming back each day?
I find myself smiling every day in awe of the opportunities I am given. I have some amazing families on my caseload, and I love connecting with compassion. My son is also proud to tell people his mom “helps kids like me”.
What would you say to those just starting out their careers in ABA?
First and foremost – welcome! This field can be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling places to make a difference in the world. Be sure to listen to autistic voices, educate yourself on the experience of the population we serve, and be sure to celebrate the “woo hoos” in every challenge that presents itself. Compassion is key!
