It’s May, and that means a fresh crop of college grads are looking to start new careers. If this is you, you may be considering your path forward in life. You may have student loans to pay, and yet, still be seeking your purpose as a professional. After putting in years of hard study and work, you should make sure that you choose a company who will invest in you by giving you the training and opportunities you need to find your purpose and meet your needs. We encourage you to consider a job as a therapist in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). At Verbal Beginnings you can start your career as an ABA Technician by making a difference in the lives of children. Verbal Beginnings provides a number of continuing education opportunities to keep therapists growing professionally and personally, and our Coordinators work to provide a high level of support in practice. For many, our agency is the ideal step following graduation as our therapists are able to focus on gaining fluidity in their application of behavioral principles.
At Verbal Beginnings, we believe that a career in ABA is a career spent changing lives. When you meet children with developmental disabilities and their families, you realize that your actions can productively change the lives of an entire system of people. A child who has been unable to express their needs verbally may act out in frustration, and in the process, an entire family struggles to meet and understand their needs. As an ABA therapist, you may teach children to speak and communicate their needs effectively for the first time. You may see children speaking to their parents for the first time, as a result of your work. As you teach adaptive language, social, and living skills you allow children and their families to live more fully and independently.
There are few things like being a practitioner of ABA, you have the skills to influence and conceptualize any behavior that needs to be changed. You will learn how the complexity of life can be broken down into behaviors to be influenced. ABA is based on nearly a century of research on the principles of behavior and mastery of these principles and their application allow you to influence the world across settings. As you work under the supervision of licensed clinicians at Verbal Beginnings you will see the progress you make in the data we collect and you will be able to speak about the changes you have made in your client’s lives in concrete ways. As you continue to grow professionally, you will have the confidence of knowing that you can increase a child’s adaptive skills several times over.
Our therapists routinely provide positive feedback about how starting their careers with Verbal Beginnings influenced their professional and personal development. Below, we have included some testimonials from team members.
