If you are on your way to becoming certified as a Behavior Analyst, congratulations and get ready! Along the way, there are many boxes that will need to be checked off. Getting your supervision hours and meeting all of the requirements and ratios is no easy task. In this article, we will review the 3 things you need to know about BCBA Supervision hours.
Have A Plan
Most experienced BCBA’s will tell you that you should plan for about two years to get your 1500 hours. For example, if you can work 50 weeks per year, you will need to average 15 hours per week, to meet that time frame. If you work more or less, you can adjust your plan accordingly. Keep in mind that you may need to plan to work 10-20% more to accommodate cancellations that may occur and to keep you on track. Discuss your plan with your supervisor to ensure that they are capable and committed to providing you the training you need. For additional guidance and resources, contact the experts at Verbal Beginnings! We have the ability to allow you to obtain your supervisory hour requirements while working! It’s a win/win!
Stay Organized
You will need to be extremely diligent about keeping track of your goals, your progress, your supervision hours, etc. So, find a tracking system that works for you. Some folks like to use spreadsheets or calendars, others like to use a more traditional scheduling planner, and still others will find a paperless mobile system more user-friendly. Whatever you use, use it daily. Include your experience hours, supervision hours, and supervisors name, so that you can easily compile this information later. Two years down the road, all of these details will come in handy when you are filling out forms to take your exam.
